Welcome to Class Two's information page. Our teacher is Miss Gambon and we are assisted by Mrs Roberts.
Class Two is a hive of activity and we are constantly learning and developing. We engage in a rich and varied curriculum. Our half termly topics are:
Autumn One - Our local area
Autumn Two - Dinosaurs
Spring One - Great Fire of London
Spring Two - The Royals
Summer One - Dragons/China
Summer Two - Titanic
PE - We develop physical skills through gymnastics, dance, throwing and catching as well as striking and fielding. During the summer term, we also enjoy taking part in swimming lessons at Formby Pool. Don't forget that P.E. kits are left in school for the whole half term and then washed during the holidays. This is to ensure that the children always have their full kits and can engage fully in all physical activties.
The books we study throughout the year include; The Tin Forest, The Three Little Pigs, Dragon Machine, Dinosaur Time and The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark.
We continue to develop our reading, writing and phonics skills using The Sounds Write synthetic phonics programme. We also carry out daily reciprocal reading activities. This involves working in small groups, to develop comprehension as well as speaking and listening skills.
We take great pride in the presentation of our work and work up to using fully cursive handwriting by the end of year two.
We are rewarded by dojos, Star of the Week and the opportunity to take home our class mascot, Sid the Sloth.
We send spellings home on a Monday, which should be completed every night. The children are then tested on a Friday.
In Class Two, children are encouraged to read every night and they change their books independently.
Children are also set maths or English homework on a Friday and this should be returned to school by Wednesday. Online maths homework may be set through the Active Learn website www.activelearnprimary.co.uk. The children have been given a username and password. The school code for Redgate is 3r3a.
Homework may also be set related to the current topic.
If your child has any medical needs, medication should be sent into school, accompanied by a letter signed by a parent/guardian.
